Anna Emmins, creator of Electric Penelope is a prolific songwriter, established singer, performer and producer. The fifth of ten musically inclined children, Anna was raised predominantly in London above the jazz club her parents ran, which brought about her jazz and soul inspired songwriting.

She released her debut album which she co-produced with award winning songwriter and producer Iain Petrie in 2012. After a superb reception and airplay on BBC Introducing she was invited to support BBC 4’s Jenni Murray on her tour of Northumberland and has continued to snap up coveted support slots including 1960’s soul legend Geno Washington. In 2013 she instigated a collaboration with BBC’s former Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s tonmeister Tony Kime who arranged her songs for a one off performance with The Scottish Romance Orchestra. Her songwriting goes from strength to strength, bringing together influences from her diverse musical childhood ranging from soul and motown to folk and contemporary.

The band currently consists of Anna on keyboard and vocals,  Duncan on bass, Alex on guitar and Alan on drums. The line up can extend up to sixteen, depending on the type of gig. She is also a competent solo performer.

My Everything (LIVE)

“Think Billie Holiday. Anna lets her voice find its own way around the melody yet still in perfect control. It contributes to this wonderful air of playful languor the band has got going on, blending elements of jazz, funk and pop, blissful stuff, hinting at smoke and late night whisky.
Chastity Flight ~ Not The Berwick Advertiser

“With A New Day, Electric Penelope has carved out an assured piece of classic pop. With one eye looking longingly behind her to the classic sounds of 1960’s girl groups and the other fixed firmly on the squelchy synth driven textures of “future- pop now,” this cock-eyed songstress has happened on a winning formula that is fun and reassuring. If a hug could be translated into song it would sound like this album.”
Robert Wilkinson ~ The Trip

“The softness and subtlety of classic jazz, seamlessly fused with contemporarytwists of modern pop, signify the trademark stamp of supremely talented singer-songwriter Electric Penelope. A New Day, her triumphant debut album, is built on her unique blend of silky smooth vocals, gritty determination and an unfaltering ability to string together an immaculate melody.”
